No Siri Isn't Holding Back The Homepod

So the homepod was given to Apples favourite media persons the other day and the reviews have started pouring in. One thing is strangely consistent across all these reviews, they all talk about how Siri is holding back the homepod. This really got me scratching my head. Sure Siri might not be able to tell you how much a chipmunk weighs, but really how much do we ask our smart assistants random questions. Lets took at how Siri isn't really holding the homepod back.

Siri Is Already Smart Enough

No really you didn't read that wrong Siri is more smarter than you realise, especially after the iOS 11 update. Now Siri can answer all the random questions that you have. If I'm being honest here I'm of the opinion that Siri can go toe to toe with the likes of Google assistant. She can answer any random question that you can throw at her ( this wasn't the case before iOS 11). Moreover context awareness has taken off recently, one off the biggest faults with Siri used to be that she didn't understand context. You had to specify each and every little thing now you can have more natural conversations with Siri. Another reason why I think Siri is smart enough is that the google assistant in my experience (On a phone atleast) isn't capable of a lot of system tasks. Sure she opens the camera but the moment you ask her something along the lines of "Show me mobile data settings" she just shows me a card to open settings, the same with apps , Whereas on Siri if you ask the same questions she can actually go into the settings app and can actually show you what you want to see. I was particularly impressed when Siri opened the notification settings for Kik after saying "Show me Kik notification settings". More over Google assistant couldn't delete an already set alarm. I really don't see why Siri is so dumb.

The Smarts Will Come.

Now we move onto Alexa the other big Siri competitor. Alexa's strength lies in the support she enjoys from developers. If a smart product is released you betcha it has Alexa support. Ive written an entire article about how Siri is going to catch up and help make the iPhone smarter here. So Alexa can order you pizza that's well and good but how many of us actually use it. Siri has been able to hail you Ubers, send money over PayPal and do much more like on Pinterest and Vogue. This has Been around for years yet I have yet to see a substantial number of people yell into their phones to get them a cab or to send money. These are great for youtube videos and demos but I highly doubt that these features translate into real world utility. More over Siri can do all of what you might want her to do, all of what you'd want a smart speaker to do, control your smart home accessories, make calls and texts. I know some features are off limits as of now but all they will soon be added in a. upcoming software update.

So all in all I don't really think that Siri is holding the Homepod back in any way. She's got plenty of horsepower.

So Which Is The Best Browser For Your Mac?

With all the chrome bashing that's been going on of late, It got me wondering and a bit jealous cause I was missing out on the aforementioned Chrome bashing. Does it really matter what browser you use? I mean they all fundamentally do the same thing, It turns all the ones and zeros of the internet into things that you can actually read on your screen. But as is turns out a whole lot of things have to happen for your favourite website to be displayed to you, In the shady back alleys of code that our browsers run on, It turns out that each browser does things a little bit differently. So what are our options? The Three main browsers that we'll be taking a look at today will be Safari, Firefox and Chrome.  Safari Safari is the browser that comes with your iPhone or iPad or your Mac as we are discussing in this case. It's a fast fluid responsive modern browser. It's my browser on choice. Safari a few things going for it. First off it's a first party brows

The Huawei Ban Is Justified (Hear Me Out)

So a few a year or so ago I talked about the consequences of using a Huawei phone here  and more than a year later things aren't all that different. Recently Huawei was accused of being a security threat by the United States and has asked all American companies to not do business with Huawei. So that means that Huawei is now cut off from Intel, Qualcomm and most importantly Android. Now this might seem harsh at first glance. The US is unfairly targeting a law abiding company just for the fact that it is Chinese. But a closer look reveals much more.  How China Does Business Unlike in the west and much of the world. China does not have a protections for intellectual property. That means that no ones protecting your idea from being ripped off by someone else and then being brought to market. In most of the world if someone violates a patent you can sue them. Case and point look at pressy a small Kickstarter that makes a small button that plugs into your phones headphone jack (

My iOS 13 Wishlist

Around this time last year I wrote the  iOS 12 wish list , And to my surprise most of my prayers were answered, and iOS 12 has been wonderful for the last 5 months or so. But now we're coming up on another WWDC, Yes its still 5 months away but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill from speculating what the next version of iOS will be.Here are a few features that I'd like to see on the next version of iOS. A New Look For iOS 13 Ever since iOS 7 iOS has looked the same more or less, With its flat icons and punchy colours. I feel that the time for a refresh is long overdue. Don't get me wrong it looks great but, Its stale and I fresh new coat of paint can go wonders in making iOS 13 feel radically different. Apple has their work cut out for them if they do decide to go down this route. Finding a new design aesthetic isn't the most easiest thing in the world. When you consider that the new design refresh will have be loved and should be simple to use for millions
