iOS 11 Was A Dumpster Fire. Whats Next?

So iOS 11 was released back in September of 2017 and it has been a cluster-You know what I mean. iOS 11 has been crippling devices ever since it's release. Its ironic iOS 11 has been iOS's (iOSes?,iOSeses?) most beta tested version to date, and it is the most buggiest iOS release ever. iOS 11 has been said to shorten the battery life of older iPhones by quite a bit. My iPhone 5s really took a hint in the battery department after the iOS 11 update. Performance also took a hit with iOS 11. Why is this so?

iOS 11 Changed A Lot

iOS 11 gave users a lot of things that they had been clamouring for. A redesigned control centre , a more productive environment on the iPad so that you can actually get work done on it,  you know the works. But unknown to most of us, I think Apple redesigned the innards of iOS. They really tweaked it at the nuts and bolts level. iOS 11 updates were weird in the sense that they were unusually massive the initial update was a few gigs ( as you'd expect ), but the subsequent minor updates were really big.
Like almost a gig or more in many cases, and you can't really justify the huge size of these updates as they're not cosmetic in nature they're not changing any of the UI elements or implementing a new feature. So all of this was to probably change the inner workings of iOS. iOS 10.3 which brought the Apple File System to the iPhone and iPad was a significant update despite it being a small incremental update to iOS 10. I presume Apple did the same thing with iOS 11. The problem with that is that when you radically change something you're bound to get bugs in your code, And boy did we get bugs. Moreover iOS 11 was different than most other iOS releases as you now had to totally redesign the operating system for a new phone that hasn't ever existed. The development team was in uncharted waters you might say. Where as in earlier years you had one team working on one OS this year you had the same team working on two different operating systems. iOS 11 for the iPhone 5s- 8+ and iOS 11 for the iPhone X. The iPhone X version of iOS 11 really was different it had to incorporate gestures, get Face Id to work ( which they struggled with software wise) and how could we forget redesign iOS to accommodate that notch. So they didn't really have the experience to squash bugs.

So Whats Next?

iOS 12 is rumoured to be the knight in shining armour we've all been hoping for. According to reports iOS 12 will be focusing on fixing bugs and making iOS more efficient. Apple is so focused on this that Apple has pushed the features initially planned for iOS 12 to iOS 13. Features that include a revamped home screen and many other features. But iOS 12 won't be unveiled for months not until WWDC 2018 and it won't be released till September 2018. In the interim we can only hope that iOS 11.3 fixes all thats been broken. From the initial iOS 11.3 beta that seems to be the case iOS feels more responsive battery life seems to have improved and crashes have been significantly reduced. iOS 11.3 Apple, hopes will keep us placated until iOS 12 hits stores.

So Which Is The Best Browser For Your Mac?

With all the chrome bashing that's been going on of late, It got me wondering and a bit jealous cause I was missing out on the aforementioned Chrome bashing. Does it really matter what browser you use? I mean they all fundamentally do the same thing, It turns all the ones and zeros of the internet into things that you can actually read on your screen. But as is turns out a whole lot of things have to happen for your favourite website to be displayed to you, In the shady back alleys of code that our browsers run on, It turns out that each browser does things a little bit differently. So what are our options? The Three main browsers that we'll be taking a look at today will be Safari, Firefox and Chrome.  Safari Safari is the browser that comes with your iPhone or iPad or your Mac as we are discussing in this case. It's a fast fluid responsive modern browser. It's my browser on choice. Safari a few things going for it. First off it's a first party brows

The Huawei Ban Is Justified (Hear Me Out)

So a few a year or so ago I talked about the consequences of using a Huawei phone here  and more than a year later things aren't all that different. Recently Huawei was accused of being a security threat by the United States and has asked all American companies to not do business with Huawei. So that means that Huawei is now cut off from Intel, Qualcomm and most importantly Android. Now this might seem harsh at first glance. The US is unfairly targeting a law abiding company just for the fact that it is Chinese. But a closer look reveals much more.  How China Does Business Unlike in the west and much of the world. China does not have a protections for intellectual property. That means that no ones protecting your idea from being ripped off by someone else and then being brought to market. In most of the world if someone violates a patent you can sue them. Case and point look at pressy a small Kickstarter that makes a small button that plugs into your phones headphone jack (

My iOS 13 Wishlist

Around this time last year I wrote the  iOS 12 wish list , And to my surprise most of my prayers were answered, and iOS 12 has been wonderful for the last 5 months or so. But now we're coming up on another WWDC, Yes its still 5 months away but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill from speculating what the next version of iOS will be.Here are a few features that I'd like to see on the next version of iOS. A New Look For iOS 13 Ever since iOS 7 iOS has looked the same more or less, With its flat icons and punchy colours. I feel that the time for a refresh is long overdue. Don't get me wrong it looks great but, Its stale and I fresh new coat of paint can go wonders in making iOS 13 feel radically different. Apple has their work cut out for them if they do decide to go down this route. Finding a new design aesthetic isn't the most easiest thing in the world. When you consider that the new design refresh will have be loved and should be simple to use for millions
